Appalachian Wild is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to coordinate the needs of wildlife rehabilitation in Western North Carolina by providing care for injured and orphaned wildlife, support for the wildlife rehabilitation network, and conservation education to the community.
FOUND AN ANIMAL, NOW WHAT?
Determine if the animal truly needs human intervention or if its wild mother has it tucked away for safekeeping while she is out foraging.  Click the “Found an Animal” tab at AppalachianWild.org for educational flowcharts on birds, mammals, and reptiles to learn what action needs to be taken to best serve the animal.
YOUR SUPPORT SAVES WILD LIVES!
The number of injured and orphaned wildlife is increasing significantly each year due to increased human/animal interactions, including lot clearing, traffic collisions, food/plastics litter, etc.  It is projected that more than 2,000 animals will be cared for at our wildlife care facility in 2020. Please help us provide care for them by donating today at AppalachianWild.org.

Who We Are:

We’re about hope, not heartache. As Buncombe County’s critical safety net since 1984, we are always here to save and protect every animal. We have mastered the art of saving lives within our walls and now we are going even further, helping our community’s pets and their people thrive together. We are going beyond a no-kill community to ensure that each animal has the quality of life they deserve – a life worth living.

What We Do:

Adoptions:  Each year, we find loving homes for thousands of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, farm animals, and more!

Relocation:  Hundreds of animals each year are sent on our relocation van to partner shelters across the country. Due to the low number of strays in these areas, shelters are willing to place specified animals into their care while giving us more space to take in additional Buncombe County animals.

Foster:  Our volunteer foster families open their homes to over 1,000 animals per year who are too young, sick or scared to be immediately adopted.

Volunteer:  Hundreds of volunteers take on a variety of tasks to help care for and promote our animals, assist administration, and represent AHS at community events, allowing more time for our staff to do their jobs efficiently.

Lost and Found:  Incoming animals are scanned for a microchip, photographed, placed on our website, and then held for 72 hours so worried families can search for their missing pets. Reports of lost pets are filed and reviewed when new animals arrive at our shelter.

Community Solutions:  We offer services and resources to pet owners in our community who need assistance with their pets due to personal or financial constraints. We make every effort to ensure that pets remain in their homes with the families who love them.

Charlie’s Angels

Home

CAAR-logo-1We are a volunteer- based, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to rescuing these homeless, abandoned, neglected, often abused animals and finding them new forever homes.

Some of the animals we pull from local county shelters are immediately placed in a foster home, but the majority are brought to Safe Haven, our shelter located in Fletcher, NC. That’s the day that these animals get a second chance at a better life.We love them, heal their wounds, get them training if they need it, and in many cases provide life-saving medical treatment. When they are ready, we find the perfect home where they can begin living again. As a non-profit organization we do all of this with only a limited number kennel workers. But what we also have is an amazing cadre of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who are the heart-beat of our organization and are the reason why we are able to do what we do – save lives.charlies angels
