Providing cage free home environment for Senior Cats to live out their lives or be adopted into a loving home.
Laps and Naps Home for Senior Cats aspires to be a model for the humane care of all cats in their senior years.
- Open a sanctuary for senior cats in a cage-free home environment that is designed for the comfort, well-being and pleasure of the cats until they can be adopted or to live out their lives with love and care in the sanctuary.
- Provide both long- and short-term foster care where cats can live in a home while awaiting adoption or transition to the sanctuary.
- Provide peace of mind to cat guardians by accepting their companions when they are no longer able to care for them.
- Pull senior cats from local shelters to provide a home environment and care appropriate for their special needs.

Who We Are:
We’re about hope, not heartache. As Buncombe County’s critical safety net since 1984, we are always here to save and protect every animal. We have mastered the art of saving lives within our walls and now we are going even further, helping our community’s pets and their people thrive together. We are going beyond a no-kill community to ensure that each animal has the quality of life they deserve – a life worth living.
What We Do:
Adoptions: Each year, we find loving homes for thousands of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, farm animals, and more!
Relocation: Hundreds of animals each year are sent on our relocation van to partner shelters across the country. Due to the low number of strays in these areas, shelters are willing to place specified animals into their care while giving us more space to take in additional Buncombe County animals.
Foster: Our volunteer foster families open their homes to over 1,000 animals per year who are too young, sick or scared to be immediately adopted.
Volunteer: Hundreds of volunteers take on a variety of tasks to help care for and promote our animals, assist administration, and represent AHS at community events, allowing more time for our staff to do their jobs efficiently.
Lost and Found: Incoming animals are scanned for a microchip, photographed, placed on our website, and then held for 72 hours so worried families can search for their missing pets. Reports of lost pets are filed and reviewed when new animals arrive at our shelter.
Community Solutions: We offer services and resources to pet owners in our community who need assistance with their pets due to personal or financial constraints. We make every effort to ensure that pets remain in their homes with the families who love them.
We are a volunteer- based, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to rescuing these homeless, abandoned, neglected, often abused animals and finding them new forever homes.
Some of the animals we pull from local county shelters are immediately placed in a foster home, but the majority are brought to Safe Haven, our shelter located in Fletcher, NC. That’s the day that these animals get a second chance at a better life.We love them, heal their wounds, get them training if they need it, and in many cases provide life-saving medical treatment. When they are ready, we find the perfect home where they can begin living again. As a non-profit organization we do all of this with only a limited number kennel workers. But what we also have is an amazing cadre of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who are the heart-beat of our organization and are the reason why we are able to do what we do – save lives.
Asheville Cat Weirdos is a registered nonprofit organization serving people and their cats in Western North Carolina. Our food pantry is stocked with donated food, litter, and non-prescription medication that is sealed in its original packaging and has not expired. Some packaging may be damaged in the transportation process.
Our pantry can offer up to a three month supply of cat food (divided into biweekly installments) before re-application is required.
In 2018, the Asheville Cat Weirdos Emergency Fund Emergency Veterinary Assistance program helped 132 cats, with a total of $38,814.52! The more we do, the more we realize our program is desperately needed in the area, and we’re expected to grow in 2019 and beyond.
